A tight, cramped and crowded backyard was transformed into a small but beautiful outdoor getaway.
The Vision
These Hamilton homeowners had an older landscape that included an above-ground pool and a concrete patio. But the space they had wasn’t functional and wasn’t working for them at all. With their two kids heading off to college and their indoor renovations finished, they knew that their backyard needed some TLC.
Both partners are avid golfers, and together they own a business. They’re busy people who don’t have a lot of time to take care of their yard. When they get home after a long day, they want to sit back and enjoy their landscape.
The Design
Their new landscape combines low maintenance with modern style. All of the turf is artificial, so it doesn’t need to be mowed, while all of the plant choices for the gardens require little maintenance. The golf green adds a fun touch where our clients, their friends and their family can practice their short game.
A pre-oiled, custom-built Douglas Fir pergola houses a gas firepit with a small patio in the corner of the yard. This was a strategic decision because it causes the homeowners to cross over their putting green to get there, tying the two separate spaces together.
The composite back deck was extended, adding a quaint spot to enjoy a morning coffee. Other small touches include a paver walkway that brings the homeowners to the front of the house as well as large natural stone slabs that beckon friends and family to enjoy this landscape!
